Zimbabwe Set to Launch APRM Country Review Report

HARARE – President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to officially launch Zimbabwe's African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Country Review Report in Harare on July 16, marking a significant milestone in the country's governance assessment process.

The event will be attended by Uganda's Vice President Jessica Rose Epel Alupo, who will represent APRM Chairperson and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni. Senior officials from the APRM Continental Secretariat are also expected to participate.

Zimbabwe joined the APRM in February 2020 and has since undergone a countrywide review examining governance, economic management and national development. The assessment covered all 10 provinces and focused on key areas including democracy, corporate governance, socio-economic development, disaster resilience and digital governance.

The review was presented for peer evaluation during the 35th APR Forum of Heads of State and Government held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, in February this year.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the report is intended to support policy improvement by measuring Zimbabwe's progress against continental governance standards. The ministry said the process also provides an evidence-based assessment of the country's governance and development while encouraging dialogue between government institutions, the private sector, civil society and other stakeholders.

The APRM is a voluntary African Union initiative designed to promote accountability, transparency and good governance among participating member states.
