Veteran South African actor and theatre icon Seputla Sebogodi has died following complications related to diabetes. He was 63.

His family confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday evening, July 15, 2026, and requested privacy as they mourn the loss of one of the country's most respected performers.

In a statement, the family described Sebogodi as an accomplished actor whose contribution to South Africa's theatre and television industries spanned several decades, leaving a lasting impact on generations of audiences and performers.

Sebogodi was widely recognised for his portrayal of Kenneth Mashaba in the long-running television soapie Generations. Throughout his distinguished career, he also appeared in several popular productions, including Rhythm City, The River, Scandal!, Suburban Bliss, Bophelo ke Semphego and Redemption.

His influence extended well beyond television. A celebrated stage performer, Sebogodi featured in acclaimed theatre productions such as Big Dada, Waiting for Godot, The Rivonia Trial, Once a Pirate, Mooi Street Moves and Black Moon.
