HARARE – Residents and business operators in Harare have praised Geo Pomona Waste Management for improving refuse collection services, resulting in cleaner streets, better waste management and a noticeable reduction in litter across the capital.

The company has strengthened its door-to-door refuse collection programme in residential areas while maintaining regular waste collection in the Central Business District (CBD) and commercial centres.

Residents say the improvements have transformed the city's appearance and contributed to a cleaner environment.

The positive feedback also comes as members of the City of Harare's Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Committee recently toured the Geo Pomona Waste Management site to assess progress at the facility. During the visit, committee members observed significant upgrades and operational improvements aimed at enhancing waste management and environmental sustainability.

Speaking after the tour, Geo Pomona Chief Executive Officer and Executive Chairman, Dr Dilesh Nguwaya said stakeholders were impressed by the developments taking place at the facility.

"The tour was meant to allow our partners to appreciate the work being done by Geo Pomona. They are very happy with the progress they have seen and have expressed a desire for us to expand our services to other cities," said Dr Nguwaya.

Westlea resident Mrs Mudefi said Harare's cleanliness has greatly improved due to Geo Pomona's commitment to consistent waste collection.

"The city is now largely litter-free, and residents are thankful for Geo Pomona's dedication to refuse collection. We are seeing cleaner surroundings and more regular collections in our communities," she said.

Business operators also acknowledged the impact of the enhanced waste management services. A trader at the busy Copacabana bus terminus said conditions had improved significantly.

"Things have changed here at Copacabana. It has never been this clean and spotless. Refuse bins are being collected systematically and on time. We encourage the company to keep up the good work," the trader said.
