The Minister of Health and Child Care, Hon. Dr. Douglas Mombeshora,  officially launched the Clinical Guidelines on the Care and Management of Survivors of Sexual Violence in Zimbabwe, marking a significant step towards improving the country's response to sexual violence.

The newly launched guidelines provide a standardized, evidence-based and survivor-centred framework designed to ensure that every survivor of sexual violence, regardless of gender, age or background, receives timely, professional, compassionate and dignified care throughout Zimbabwe's healthcare system.

Speaking at the launch, Dr. Mombeshora emphasized the need for a coordinated and sensitive approach to supporting survivors, noting that sexual violence remains a critical public health, human rights and development concern.

The guidelines seek to strengthen the capacity of healthcare workers to provide comprehensive services, including medical treatment, psychosocial support, counselling, forensic care and referrals to other support services where necessary.

Central to the framework are the principles of confidentiality, informed consent and non-discrimination, ensuring that survivors are treated with dignity and respect while safeguarding their rights and privacy.

The Ministry of Health and Child Care said the guidelines will help standardize the quality of care across all health facilities, promoting a more effective and survivor-focused response to cases of sexual violence.

The launch demonstrates Zimbabwe's commitment to strengthening the protection of vulnerable populations and ensuring survivors have access to the care and support they need to recover and rebuild their lives.
