HARARE, 14 September 2026 — President Emmerson Mnangagwa has officially opened Ecobank Zimbabwe’s new head office in Borrowdale, describing the investment as a sign of confidence in Zimbabwe’s business environment.
The new facility is the first Ecobank-owned head office constructed in the Southern Africa region, according to the President, who said the investment demonstrates Zimbabwe’s potential as a destination for capital and investment.
It is opportune that today’s official opening ceremony coincides with the Bank’s 40th anniversary as a Pan-African institution. I congratulate the Ecobank Group for their resilience, visionary and unshakable belief in the Pan African story. Well done. Congratulations.
Speaking at the opening ceremony in Harare on Monday, Mnangagwa also commended local architects, engineers, project managers and construction teams involved in the development, saying the project demonstrated Zimbabwean skills and capacity to deliver to global standards.
The building incorporates sustainability features including solar-control glazing, rainwater harvesting and energy-efficient systems. It has also received International Finance Corporation endorsement and EDGE certification.
Going forward, the President urges the Bank along with other players in the financial sector to inculcate fair practices, ethical management, prudent lending and ensure innovation and adaptation in line with the local market demands. Zimbabwe is rising and Africa is awakening and taking its place in the global economic space.
